Many workshop owners do not have the time, or perhaps the finance, to contemplate major workshop projects but still get satisfaction from completing smaller items. For these workshop owners the projects in this book do provide something that can be made relatively quickly giving the workshop owner the satisfaction of a completed project. Also, when made, the items will increase the capabilities of the workshop until time and or finance for more advanced ventures surfaces.

Another reason for making some of the 16 items in the book is that they are not available commercially at all, or at an economic price. It is as a result, also of interest to the workshop owner who is not restricted by time and or finance. A typical example is the faceplate balancing fixture that permits faceplate assemblies to be very accurately balanced permitting the lathe to run at high speeds, a feature that is not possible with poorly balanced assemblies.
